Arcane Mage Guide

Arcane delivers explosive Phase 3 damage but converts mana into DPS aggressively. Strong play is less about a rigid loop and more about choosing when to burn with Arcane Blast and when to conserve before Evocation, Innervate or potion windows.

What the spec brings

Arcane Intellect, Focus Magic is not present in TBC; utility instead comes from Polymorph, Counterspell, portals and strong burst.

✓ Mana is a damage resource—finishing with a full bar usually means missed DPS.✓ Do not burn so hard that you become useless before the kill.✓ Plan around encounter downtime to recover mana efficiently.

Talents & Raid Build

This is a raid-focused baseline, not a rule that every single talent point must be identical. Utility points can move when your raid composition or a specific encounter needs them.

Priority System

Rotation & How to Play

1Build Arcane Blast stacks during burn windows.
2Use Frostbolt or another conserve filler when mana efficiency matters.
3Use Presence of Mind / Arcane Power inside planned burst windows.
4Evocate before you are completely empty and when encounter movement allows the channel.
5Coordinate Innervate, Mana Tide and potion timing with your burn plan.
Phase 3 rule: mechanics and uptime beat a perfect theoretical sequence. Black Temple and Hyjal repeatedly force movement, target swaps, dispels, interrupts or add control, so adapt the priority instead of freezing when the ideal rotation is interrupted.
