Profession 1–375

TBC Classic Blacksmithing Guide 1–375

Blacksmithing creates plate and mail armor, weapon chains, sharpening stones and powerful crafted weapons. Its direct character value is strongest for classes that can use profession-specific weapon progression.

Leveling Route

Blacksmithing 1–375 skill bands

Material prices vary by realm, so this route uses flexible skill bands instead of pretending one shopping list is always cheapest.

1–75

Use Rough Stone, Copper Bars and simple sharpening stones or low-level armor to move through Apprentice skill.

75–150

Bronze Bars, Coarse Stone and basic weapons/armor carry the Journeyman range. Keep an eye on cheap stone crafts when bars spike in price.

150–225

Heavy Stone, Iron and Mithril become the core materials. Components such as grinding stones can be worth making before finished items.

225–300

Mithril and Thorium recipes finish the Classic range; mix trainer crafts with inexpensive plans instead of overpaying for one route.

300–330

Fel Iron Bars and early Outland weapon/armor crafts provide the first Master skill-ups.

330–350

Adamantite-based crafts and useful components become the main route. Compare ore/bar prices before mass crafting.

350–375

Higher Adamantite, Khorium and reputation/plan crafts finish the profession; the last levels are often expensive, so craft useful items whenever possible.

Recipes turn yellow/green at different skill levels and skill-ups are not guaranteed. Buy a buffer of materials and compare Auction House prices before committing to the most expensive final crafts.

Why Blacksmithing matters in Phase 3

  • Crafted weapon chains and selected weapon upgrades remain useful even when most armor slots move into Tier 6.
  • Weaponsmithing specializations can still matter to characters using the associated crafted weapon lines.
  • Mining is the natural leveling pair because Blacksmithing consumes very large quantities of ore, bars and stone.
Planning

Best pairing: Mining

The pairing is a practical default, not a rule. Serious raiders sometimes choose two crafting professions for character power and fund materials through alts or the Auction House.

FAQ

Blacksmithing questions

Is Blacksmithing still worth it in Phase 3?

It can be, especially if your class benefits from a profession-crafted weapon line or you value its utility crafts. Check your actual Phase 3 BiS before committing.

Armorsmith or Weaponsmith?

Choose based on the recipes your character will actually use. For raid DPS characters, weapon specialization is often the reason to keep Blacksmithing.
