Know the cap before you swap gear
Raid boss spell-hit cap is 16%. Shadow Focus provides up to 10% hit for Shadow spells, leaving 6% from gear before Draenei Heroic Presence.
Best Gems & Enchants
These are strong Phase 3 defaults. Socket bonuses and cap requirements can make a hybrid gem better than a pure throughput gem.
Phase 3 Gearing Alternatives
Black Temple and Hyjal loot is contested. A strong gearing plan needs more than one path.
Keep strong Phase 2 pieces
Do not break a valuable set bonus or lose your hit cap just because a T6 item has a higher item level.
Crafted gear can remain BiS
Tailoring and other profession pieces can stay competitive deep into Phase 3, especially on bracer or chest slots.
Badge and reputation items
Use them to patch hit, haste or a weak slot while waiting for contested Black Temple/Hyjal drops.
