TBC Classic Fishing Guide 1–375
Fishing provides food materials, valuable Outland fish and a low-risk way to fund Cooking. It levels through catches rather than recipe crafting, so route choice is mostly about skill requirements, travel and avoiding missed catches.
Fishing 1–375 skill bands
Material prices vary by realm, so this route uses flexible skill bands instead of pretending one shopping list is always cheapest.
Fish in any beginner-safe water and train the next rank before hitting your cap. Use a lure if your effective fishing skill is low.
Continue in progressively higher-level Classic zones; the exact fish matters less than maintaining reliable catches.
Acquire the required Expert training/book and move to waters appropriate for your effective skill.
Complete the Artisan progression and fish higher-level Classic zones. Better rods and lures reduce failed catches.
Train Master Fishing in Outland and begin in easier Outland waters.
Move through Zangarmarsh, Terokkar or Nagrand depending on the fish you want for Cooking.
Finish in higher Outland waters; max-skill fishing is useful for raid food, economy fishing and special pools.
Recipes turn yellow/green at different skill levels and skill-ups are not guaranteed. Buy a buffer of materials and compare Auction House prices before committing to the most expensive final crafts.
Why Fishing matters in Phase 3
- Fishing supplies several foods used by raiders and pairs naturally with Cooking.
- Useful fishing value is not limited to raw gold: self-supplied raid food reduces repeated Auction House spending.
- A good rod and lure can let you fish higher-value water more comfortably while your base skill catches up.
Best pairing: Cooking
The pairing is a practical default, not a rule. Serious raiders sometimes choose two crafting professions for character power and fund materials through alts or the Auction House.
Fishing questions
Do fish species affect skill-ups?
Fishing skill increases from successful catches, so choose waters where your effective skill produces reliable catches rather than chasing one fish solely for leveling speed.
Why pair Fishing with Cooking?
Many efficient Cooking recipes use fish, allowing the same gathering time to level both secondary professions and supply raid food.
