TBC Classic Mining Guide 1–375
Mining supplies ore, bars and stone for three major crafting professions. It can be leveled by gathering, by smelting for large portions of the range, or with a hybrid route based on your realm economy.
Mining 1–375 skill bands
Material prices vary by realm, so this route uses flexible skill bands instead of pretending one shopping list is always cheapest.
Mine Copper Veins in starter zones and smelt Copper when it still grants skill.
Move to Tin and Silver zones, using Bronze smelting where it is economical.
Iron and Gold nodes become the main targets; routes with dense mountain edges are efficient.
Mithril and Truesilver dominate this band. Zones with long cliff lines and caves are usually reliable.
Thorium and Rich Thorium Veins finish Classic Mining.
Fel Iron Deposits in Hellfire Peninsula and Zangarmarsh are the standard Outland entry.
Adamantite Deposits across Outland become the main source of skill.
Rich Adamantite and Khorium can finish the profession; keep mining even after nodes turn yellow because ore remains valuable.
Recipes turn yellow/green at different skill levels and skill-ups are not guaranteed. Buy a buffer of materials and compare Auction House prices before committing to the most expensive final crafts.
Why Mining matters in Phase 3
- Mining feeds Jewelcrafting prospecting, Blacksmithing and Engineering, so Phase 3 demand remains broad.
- You can often combine field mining with smelting rather than following a pure gathering route.
- If your main character needs two crafting professions, Mining is easy to move to an alt once your professions are established.
Best pairing: Blacksmithing / Engineering / Jewelcrafting
The pairing is a practical default, not a rule. Serious raiders sometimes choose two crafting professions for character power and fund materials through alts or the Auction House.
Mining questions
Can Mining be leveled mostly by smelting?
Large parts of the profession can be advanced by smelting when ore prices make sense, but gathering is still needed around some skill bands and remains the best way to generate materials.
Best Outland starting zone?
Hellfire Peninsula is the simplest place to begin Fel Iron at 300 skill, then you can branch into other Outland zones as competition changes.
