TBC Classic Skinning Guide 1–375
Skinning is the simplest source profession for Leatherworking, producing leather and hides while you level or farm beasts. It has low setup cost and is particularly easy to train alongside normal questing.
Skinning 1–375 skill bands
Material prices vary by realm, so this route uses flexible skill bands instead of pretending one shopping list is always cheapest.
Skin low-level beasts in starter zones. Keep moving to mobs near your character level so their skinning requirement rises with your skill.
Questing zones with dense beast populations make this band quick; avoid areas where humanoids dominate the mob pool.
Mid-level beast zones provide Heavy and Thick Leather. Dense camps reduce travel time between skins.
Higher-level Classic zones supply Thick and Rugged Leather; elite beast areas can be efficient if kills remain fast.
Hellfire Peninsula and Zangarmarsh beasts provide Knothide Leather and an easy Outland start.
Nagrand and Terokkar Forest have many dense beast packs and are good general-purpose routes.
Higher-level Outland beasts in Nagrand, Blade’s Edge and Netherstorm finish the skill while producing valuable Knothide and specialty hides.
Recipes turn yellow/green at different skill levels and skill-ups are not guaranteed. Buy a buffer of materials and compare Auction House prices before committing to the most expensive final crafts.
Why Skinning matters in Phase 3
- Knothide and Heavy Knothide feed Leatherworking drums, armor kits and crafted gear.
- Skinning has no complicated recipe gate, making it easy to place on an alt if your main later swaps to two crafting professions.
- Farming value depends on leather prices and how quickly you can kill densely packed beasts.

The pairing is a practical default, not a rule. Serious raiders sometimes choose two crafting professions for character power and fund materials through alts or the Auction House.

No, but it is the most natural pair because all gathered leather can be used directly.
Where should I level 300–375?
Follow dense Outland beast areas rather than one mandatory path. Hellfire/Zangarmarsh are good starting points, then Nagrand and higher zones carry the later levels.
